CREATE is Tyler School of Art and Architecture’s virtual graduating portfolio review for the Graphic and Interactive Design department. My spring semester senior year, I had the honor to be a part of the six-person team of students tasked with creating a visual identity for this event that represents and serves our graduating class. We decided our branding to revolve around the theme of “branching out,” which embodies the experience of our students leaving academia, pursuing new careers, and entering the professional world.

I was tasked with the role of “Lead Strategist”, which means I worked with a lot of research, focusing on strategy and setting the tone for the brand and its other deliverables. My research was mostly versed in the online presence of our brand through socials and web, as well as user experience when needed.
This role was very out of my comfort zone and a role I had never been presented to fulfill. As a very research-based and purpose-oriented designer, I enjoyed exercising and expanding my skills to fulfill this role. Below is a compilation of some logo research I completed in the beginning stages is placed in our presentation format.

We all worked to make major design decisions as a team as we further fleshed out our brand and established the important design elements for CREATE’s branding. Once setteling on our theme and final logo and color system, we soon began our Instagram takeover, beginning to spread the word that the annual event details were coming soon. As we progressed and things became to come together, we all split off to cover different deliverables of the brand. For example, initially, some worked more on the website or the scheduling of the event but still maintained the collaborative work process. I personally worked mainly with social media, creating and designing Instagram stories and reels, maintaining those
as well as working with the feed when applicable.

Shown above is a series of Instagram stories titled “This or That”. These were stories that were meant to engage with our audience with design-related questions, for example choosing between Figma and Adobe XD, or Microsoft Teams and Slack.
To the right and below are examples of other feed/story posts I worked on reaching out for “reviewer sign-ups” for our event, and a countdown to the event itself.

Working on this team was an amazing experience and a type of work I had not experienced at Tyler. The experience helped me realize many things about myself as a designer, showing me what it is like to work on a collaborative team like this and learning a lot about myself and how I can work with others. it was also great being able to work in branding and social media, two areas of design I am extremely passionate about. It was truly special to be able to work with such great designers to create something special and important to me and the rest of the students as part of this celebratory portfolio review.
